August 16, 2014 was the day of the worldwide launch of Bubbles Beyond Borders. Bubbles Beyond Borders is a global campaign to support the dreams of girls and women around the world. Women, men, boys and girls worldwide join in harmony and celebration of their hopes and dreams by blowing bubbles. The bubbles blow and release into the universe the dreams and hopes of our future.
Over 15 countries participated in the launch of Bubbles Beyond Borders. The campaign originated in Newcastle, South Africa. Haseena Patel is the creator of this inspirational event. Ms. Patel is an author, speaker, and an empowerment coach for girls. She is also the founder of Leave No Girl Behind. Leave No Girl Behind is an organization that is dedicated to empowering girls and raising awareness. It is truly no surprise that Ms. Patel would put together such an extraordinary event and capture the interest of many women and men from around the world. Bubbles Beyond Borders is a campaign that raises awareness about the hopes and dreams of not just girls, but also boys!
As a youth mentor, I meet many children who are not as privileged as others their age that grow up in loving homes. Some of the children that I mentor have backgrounds of abuse, neglect, poverty, and homelessness. These children have experienced and survived more in their youth than some adults have had to endure.
As a survivor of child abuse, I can relate to most of what these children have experienced. I mentor children because I want to be a positive example for them. I want them to know that they each have a voice and their voices do count. We can choose not only to be survivors, but we can also choose to be “thrivers”.
As a “thriver”, I choose to not only heal from my past abuse and move forward in life, but also I choose to share my experience with others and provide hope. I felt like this campaign would be perfect to share with the youth in my community and some of the children that I mentor.
On last Saturday, August 16, 2014, I had the honor of leading the campaign in Atlanta, GA. I love being a youth mentor. It’s wonderful to listen to the positive hopes and dreams of boys and girls who have been through more and survived more than most people can imagine. It feels great to be a good example for them. No matter what you go through, if you survive and strive, then you can choose to thrive!
